In the case of our engineering activities we specialize in manufacturing process improvement specifically through the application of machine vision and inspection automation technologies. Our role is to complement existing staff where internal resources are not very familiar with these technologies. The goal of VSI services is to provide existing staff with the "tools" to effectively implement machine vision and inspection automation process control and quality control projects.

Principal:
The principal in VSI is Nello Zuech. Since establishing VSI, Nello has authored several books including his latest release "Understanding and Applying Machine Vision" published by Marcel Dekker. Brian Smithgall of Vision 1 said of the book, "It is an excellent resource for anyone involved in machine vision, from the technician to the project manager." His other book titled "Applying Machine Vision" is published by Wiley. He has also co-authored a book titled "Machine Vision" with Richard Miller and published by Chapman & Hall; edited the "Machine Vision Glossary of Terms" published by the Automated Imaging Association; and edited the books titled "Machine Vision: Capabilities for Industry" and "Gaging With Vision Systems" published by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He also co-authored with Jim Dunseth the chapter on machine vision for an "Encyclopedia on Robotics" published by Wiley and edited the "Handbook of Intelligent Sensors for Industrial Automation" published by Addison-Wesley Longman.
He has also written numerous articles that have appeared in various trade periodicals and chaired numerous sessions for the SME, ISA, and other professional societies. A member of the World Bank Consultancy Registry, SME College of Fellows, IEEE and IEEE Consulting Group, SPIE, and Tau Beta Pi, he was also a charter member of the Machine Vision Association, past Chairman and recipient of their Chairman's Award in 1994. The SME has honored him granting him Certification by Stature as a Manufacturing Engineer, Machine Vision Engineer. The Automated Imaging Association has honored him by presenting him the Year 2000 Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the field of machine vision.
VSI also provides business and marketing counseling to companies supplying machine vision and related products as well as to suppliers of: machine intelligence, intelligent sensors, electronic imaging, electro-optics and nondestructive evaluation. VSI is also active in the field of technology transfer working with universities and Federal Labs to assist them to commercialize their developments in the aforementioned technologies.
