MACHINE VISION

Improving quality and productivity is the key to survival in today's competitive world. The "bottom-line" demands improving both and customers demand the best in quality. Machine vision, intelligent sensors and automated inspection technology are specific tools that can assist a company to achieve quality and productivity improving goals.

SUCCESSFUL PURSUIT OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES REQUIRES:

1. becoming informed

2. understanding and specifying requirements

3. identifying products with suitable techniques

4. identifying and qualifying vendors with relevant experience.

5. systematic project management and buy-off procedures

VISION SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL (VSI) is a professional consulting firm dedicated to improving manufacturing processes and quality by simplifying the adoption of: machine vision, machine perception, automated inspection and intelligent sensor technologies. Driving VSI services is the premise "you can't control what you can't sense." VSI's expertise can evaluate your manufacturing processes for opportunities for these technologies. Without ties to any vendors, VSI objectively determines the machine vision/machine perception hardware you need and provides project direction.

ASK VSI ANY OF THESE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:

  1. Can machine vision, automated inspection or intelligent sensor technology provide an economical solution?
  2. Can a functional specification be written reflecting the application requirements comprehensively?
  3. Where can I learn more about machine vision?
  4. What vendors offer the systems I need and which companies have the most relevant experience?
  5. What steps should I take to install a system to assure success?

VSI recognizes that many companies do not have staff and know-how to design and implement projects associated with all advanced manufacturing technologies. VSI services cost effectively and quickly complement and augment your staff know-how specifically in the fields of machine vision, machine perception, automated inspection and intelligent sensors. The result of the VSI approach is not only to assist you on a specific project but also to train a staff to become self-sufficient to implement subsequent similar projects.

VSI SERVICES INCLUDE:

An assignment typically includes a site visit to perform a project evaluation. This is helpful to interpret the application requirements and appearance and other variables. These must be understood and reflected in a specification defining the application and system requirements. The systematic approach virtually guarantees a successful application with a minimum of organizational disturbances stemming from the adoption of new technology.

WHY USE VSI?

1. Specialization - VSI concentrates exclusively in the fields of machine vision, machine perception, automated inspection and intelligent sensors. This has enabled us to develop an in-depth knowledge of the technology, applications, vendors and integrators. This permits VSI to quickly identify opportunities and obstacles in leveraging these technologies to achieve productivity and quality goals.

2. Technical expertise - VSI's engineering and manufacturing background and extensive experience in the field makes it possible to understand and interpret production processes and information needs quickly. With clients in virtually every manufacturing industry, we have developed a familiarity with many production processes and the fundamental applications found in forming, assembly, testing, packaging, warehousing and quality operations.

3. Training - VSI offers cohesive tutorials on machine vision technology, suppliers and applications. These are designed to:

4. Information resources - VSI's extensive files and data bases provide instant access to vendors, applications, experience, etc. Our comprehensive ROI analysis can yield quicker payback because of all the benefits and quality costs it recognizes.

5. Timeliness - We pride ourselves in our "quick reaction" capability. Typical application counseling assignments are two - three days and can be scheduled within two weeks. Detailed reports (generally including comprehensive functional specifications) are delivered to our clients in two weeks. Our training can quickly bring both technical and non-technical personnel up to speed on the technology in a single day.

6. Contacts - VSI's extensive consulting experience, publishing activities, training courses and involvement with both the machine vision professional society (Machine Vision Association) and the trade association (Automated Imaging Association) makes it possible to contact key individuals at machine vision vendors, system integrators, other consultancies and researchers as well as user companies quickly and confidentially.

7. Responsiveness - We are proud of our ability to respond to a client's individual needs regardless of the specific manufacturing industry of the client. We will take on assignments of any length, whether less than a person-day or for longer time periods. We are able to scale efforts and roles to match the needs of the client.

8. Objectivity and Integrity - Without any vested interests in a specific sensor technology or specific technical approach, VSI recommendations and directions are not constrained. VSI can flexibly serve clients having no overt or covert ties to the products or services recommended. Objective system application analysis:

VSI receives fees from the client only, for providing results-oriented, value-based services.

9. Small size - Most clients enjoy working with a small consulting firm. Customers are an important part of our overall business. Our continued success depends on the referrals of satisfied clients.

10. Avoid costly mistakes - VSI's systematic approach avoids purchase of wrong technology or purchase from wrong vendor.

11. Results - VSI's approach is to "enable" clients by transferring knowledge to them. The VSI approach results in technology transfer less expensively than alternate scenarios. The strategic planning for automated inspection or intelligent sensor implementation that results from the VSI approach yields:

12. Confidence in:
